<p><strong>Get Up and Move!</strong></p>
<p>The obvious thing about the body is that it needs exercise.  Public Service Announcements love to remind us to get up and get moving for an hour a day, but what do cancer patients need to do?  Would exercise benefit or hurt them?</p>
<p>Do not let cancer keep you in your seat.</p>
<p>Exercise does more for cancer patients than one expects.  The goal is not to get into shape.  Research has shown that exercise improves the quality of life for those undergoing treatment and those who survived the cancer.</p>
<p>Quality of life is improved in two ways through the exercise.  First, the body image is improved.  Many people struggle with accepting how they look when going through and recovering from cancer.  Body composition, the second improvement made here, is a part of the body image.  With the exercise, the body composition will become regular again.</p>
<p>There are four types of fitness to focus on when exercising, and the way you accomplish work in these four areas varies by the type of cancer and what stage you are in.  The four types are aerobic exercise, strength training, balance, and stretching.</p>
<p>Aerobic exercise is best used to maintain body weight and build lean muscle.  This is important to do in some way for those patients stuck in chairs; lean muscle will keep the body strong.  Walking exercises tend to be the safest start for cancer patients and survivors.  Aerobic exercise can build up from there.</p>
<p>Strength training with weight training is equally important, especially for women.  Bone density when undergoing treatment, and when recovering from treatment, decreases.  This type of training will not increase bone density, but it will help maintain it.</p>
<p>Balance training helps keep the patient safe.  A lot of medication impedes balance and with the mentioned loss of bone density, it only takes one moment of imbalance to get seriously injured.  These exercises will protect the patient from the risk of falling and not being able to get up.</p>
<p>Stretching helps strengthen target spots of the body that might feel weaker after undergoing treatment.  This type of <a href="http://www.cancer.gov/ncicancerbulletin/062910/page5">training will make that target spot feel so much better.<br />

Whether you are undergoing <a href="http://www.mesothelioma.com/treatment/">mesothelioma treatment</a>, recovering from breast cancer, or wanting your strength back from another round of chemotherapy, exercise is important for you.  Exercise is by no means a cure for cancer.  However, it is a good way to make you feel better.  Exercise is an excellent way to cope and an excellent way to keep up your strength before and after having cancer.  Do not let it keep you in a life of inactivity.  Get up, get out, and go exercise.</p>

<p>The Weight Loss Ultimatum is a class that we provide to help clients loss weight in a fun and motivating way. Personally I have a blast teaching these group sessions, always being able to find new ways to keep the workouts interesting and fun for everyone there.   Lately I’ve been pre-recording the circuits and making them into Full HD video’s and showing them on the big screen during the sessions, It’s been an added bonus to make the class’s even more productive. In group sessions there is alway the time when the trainer is working with one person while another is waiting to ask a simple question on proper form for the exercise.  With all the exercise’s being shown during the workout, it eliminates this problem. Making it easier for each person to perform the exercise’s correctly. Honestly this was an idea I had that I wanted to try to see if it would work out and be helpful in the group workout format, and I have been very happy with the results we’ve gotten. It’s like having a second fitness trainer there to make sure everything runs smoothly.</p>

<p>To kick off the toy drive we had a live radio broadcast with Power 94. Where people could come down, donate a toy, and enter the raffle. It was a great event and I was glad to see people in the community come out to support a great cause.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>We continued the toy drive through the 19th of December. We had some great toys donated that will really brighten up the holidays for some needy children.</p>

<p>Thank you to all who donated toys, We look forward to doing it again next year and helping even more people along the way.</p>

We had a huge kick off day at Shasta Regional Medical Center with Billy and Patrick for Q97 ( really funny guys). Prime Exercise was there along with Fleet Feet Sports, and staff from Shasta Regional. We had:</p>

Body &amp; weight composition analysis<br />
Personal training one-on-one advice<br />
Gait analysis<br />
Nutritional information<br />
Drawing for a FREE Couch from Kuebler&#8217;s Furniture<br />
And a Drawing for a FREE $25 Subway gift card</p>
<p>The event was great, with an estimated 200 people coming in to the hospital to check out the various services.</p>
<p>To follow up this great event we had the first day of Turkey Trot training at Fleet Feet  Saturday  at 5 pm. Unfortunately the weather turned on us so it was pretty chilly and windy for our first day of training, But we still had a great group come out to train, learn new skills, learn about injury prevention, and start there journey to a new healthier life. Next week we will be giving out training packets with tips and tricks about training, info on correct running style, workout logs, and much more.</p>
<p>We’ll be out at lake Redding Park Pavilion next week, at 5 Pm.  Hope to see you there.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I was Reading an article this morning and found something that I thought was worth sharing for all the woman having babies.</p>
<p>&#8221; Having mom stay active while pregnant can be good for both mom and baby. A recent study suggests that a mom&#8217;s fitness endeavors can have a positive impact on her baby&#8217;s heart health.</p>
<p>The Goal of the study was to determine whether a mom&#8217;s physical activity during pregnancy would have lasting positive effects on her child. According to the data, a newborn whose mother was physically active during pregnancy would reap rewards from that activity for up to 1 month after birth. The researchers found that babies exposed to exercise in utero had significantly lower fetal Heart Rate and greater heart rate variability than those in the non-exercise control group.&#8221; ( IdeaFitness Journal, Sept 2011 issue P.16)</p>
<p>I thought this was a cool piece of information supporting the fact that exercise while pregnant is not only possible but also beneficial.</p>

Shasta. I was happy to make my first trip of the year to the top of Everett Memorial Highway.  With the strange weather we&#8217;ve had this year the road to the top just opened a few weeks ago.</p>
<p>The day started with a great climb up to Gumboot lake. We started the ride early 8 am so the traffic was very light and the temps nice and cool. After reaching the lake we headed down for a nice long FAST decent back to town. <a href="http://primeexercise.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/everret-3.jpg"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-294" title="everret 3" src="http://primeexercise.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/everret-3-224x300.jpg" alt="" width="224" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>As always the view from the top of Mt. Shasta makes all the hard pedaling to get there worth it, and the Decent down is even more breath taking. I can&#8217;t wait to do it again.</p>
